Coleus Roots

Forskohlii Extract is produced from the root of Coleus forskohlii, an ancient Ayurvedic plant. Coleus is the source of a unique substance known as forskolin. Modern extraction and analytical techniques are used to produce the highest quality extract available.
Coleus forskohli:
is a perennial member of the mint, or Lamiaceae, family that was first discovered in the lower elevations of India. It is now grown around the world as an ornamental plant. The root is used for a myriad of medicinal purposes. As recorded in ancient Sanskrit texts, coleus has been used as a medical herb to treat heart and lung diseases, intestinal spasms, insomnia, and convulsions.
Forskolin is a chemical found in the coleus herb that activates the compound cyclic adenosine monophosphate, which in turn activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase. Cyclic adenosine monophosphate is perhaps the most important cell-regulating compound. Once formed it activates many other enzymes involved in diverse cellular functions. Under normal situations cAMP is formed when a stimulatory hormone (e.g., epinephrine) binds to a receptor site on the cell membrane and stimulates the activation of adenylate cyclase. Andenylate cyclase compound initiates a myriad of critical events and processes within all the cells of the human body.
However, there is no clear evidence as to whether or not oral supplementation with coleus extracts would be an efficient way of taking this herb. One study did find evidence that inhaling forskolin could decrease lung spasms for people with asthma.

Gymnema Sylvestre Leaves

While it is still being studied, and the effects of the herb are not entirely known. Gymnema reduces the taste of sugar when it is placed in the mouth, thus some use it to fight sugar cravings. From extract of the leaves were isolated glycosides known as gymnemic acids, which exhibit anti-sweet activity. This effect lasts up to about 2 hours. Some postulate that the herb may reduce cravings for sugar by blocking sugar receptors in the tongue. This effect was observed in rats in a 2003 study conducted by CH Lemon, et al.
The active ingredients are thought to be the family of compounds related to gymnemic acid: purified gymnemic acids are widely used as experimental reagents in taste physiology and have also an anti-diabetic effect in animal models, reduce intestinal transport of sugars. and fatty acids.

Gymnema can also help prevent adrenal hormones from stimulating the liver to produce glucose, thereby reducing blood sugar levels  Clinical trials with diabetics in India have used 400 mg per day of water-soluble acidic fraction of the Gymnema leaves. However, Gymnema cannot be used in place of insulin to control blood sugar by people with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

A compound which it contains called reserpine, is used to treat high blood pressure and mental disorders including schizophrena, and was particularly popular for that purpose in the West from 1954 to 1957.
It has been used for millennia as an antidote against bites of venomous reptiles.

Rosemary Leaves

Since it is attractive and drought tolerant, Rosemary is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and for xeriscape landscaping, especially in regions of Mediterranean climate. It is considered easy to grow and pest-resistant. The groundcover cultivars spread widely, with a dense and durable texture.

Taxus Baccata

Avicenna introduced the medicinal use of T. baccata for phytotherapy in The Canon of Medicine. He named this herbal drug as "Zarnab" and used it as a cardiac remedy. This was the first known use of a calcium channel blocker drug, which were not in wide use in the Western world until the 1960s.
The precursors of chemotherapy drug Paclitaxel can be derived from the leaves of European Yew, which is a more renewable source than the bark of the Pacific Yew (Taxus brevifolia). This ended a point of conflict in the early 1990s; many environmentalists, including Al Gore, had opposed the harvesting of yew for paclitaxel cancer treatments. Docetaxel (another taxane) can then be obtained by semi-synthetic conversion from the precursors.
The Central Himalayas, the plant is used as a treatment for breast and ovarian cancer.

Yohimbe Bark

I have been using yohimbe (the bark) and yohimbine (the pharmaceutical extract) from the mid-90s, and it has changed my life. But I have stopped using yohimbe and yohimbine several years ago, and for good reasons.
Yohimbe (the bark) is what got me started on the sexual enhancement train, and I still consider yohimbine (the pharmaceutical) an effective medication to engineer erections. Actually, nothing matches yohimbine for erection rigidity.
Genuine yohimbe bark (which does contain the alkaloid yohimbine) is purchased in bulk by the pharmaceutical industry that produces yohimbine tablets (primarily Plantecam in Cameroon). Pseudo yohimbe bark, which is much cheaper but contains almost no yohimbine alkaloid, is sold to the manufacturers of health supplements.

Genuine yohimbe bark (the one used for extracting the alkaloid yohimbine) has to be obtained from the species pausinystalia yohimbe. However, this plant is becoming increasingly rare in West Africa, even in Cameroon, which has been the primary supplier in the 90s. In Nigeria, which has been the main source for yohimbe and yohimbine earlier in the past century, pausinystalia yohimbe has become a hard-to-find plant. The reason is obvious.

The alkaloid yohimbine is extracted from the tree bark. After the tree has been stripped of its bark, it will die. It takes more than 10 years for the tree to grow to a size that makes it worthwhile to rip off the bark.

And yohimbe bark is a cash crop in societies, which are notoriously cash-strapped.

Senna Leaves and Pods

Description : A small shrub, about 1 m in height with pale subterete or obtusely angled erect or ascending branches. Leaves usually 5-8 jugate, leaflets oval, lanceolate, glabrous. Racemes axillary erect, waxy many-flowered, usually considerably exceeding the subtending leaf. Bracts membranous, ovate or obovate, caducous. Sepals obtuse, cuncate compressed, cotyledons plane. The pods are 1.4 to 2.8 in long, about 0.8 in wide, greenish brown to dark brown in colour and contain 5-7 obovate dark brown and nearly smooth seeds. Characteristics and Constituents : Leaves contain glycosides, sennoside A, sennoside B,sennoside C and sennoside D. Two naphthalene glycosides have been isolated frofn leaves and pods. Senna also contains the yellow flavonol colouring matter kaempferol, its glucoside kaempferin and isorhamnetin. Actions and Uses : Maximum cathartic action was seen in rats with 80 mg/kg in eight hours - due to direct stimulant activity and water and electrolyte secretions. Senna extract introduced into the lumen of the bowel through colostomy had no effect on the motility, though the same extract introduced with faeces or a culture of Escherichia coli stimulated peristalsis. Sublaxative doses of standardised senna fruit showed spasmolytic activity. Effective dose of piperazine for the treatment of threadworms and roundworms was substantially reduced by the addition of extract of senna. Water extract was found effective against Trichophyton purpurceum. Leaves and pods are used traditionally as purgatives, Topical use of the leaves for dermatosis is also not uncommon. Laxative effect of standardized senna fruit granules was compared with liquid paraffin or a mixture of liquid paraffin and magnesium hydroxide in fifty nursing mothers. Senna was more effective than the control treatment in overcoming puerpural constipation while the bowel habits of infants were not affected. It is a safe laxative. It may cause griping for which the drug is to be used with ginger.
